Our client, a large global consulting and advisory firm, is seeking to hire an M&A advisor who has vast experience advising on deals within areas such as power, energy transition and utilities. This person will be providing a range of transaction, strategic, market, regulatory and broader advice to clients mainly within the UK.
The team has delivered strong growth in recent years, over-delivering on its recent budgets. It counts 10 FTEs currently, and has the ambition of double its revenues and size over the next three years. Key responsibilities:
* Providing M&A advisory and financial advice to clients on energy transition sectors (such as energy efficiency, connections, metering, renewable generation etc.), jointly with the Firm's Corporate Finance team.
* Providing regulatory due diligence on transactions in the regulated utility sector, leveraging the specialist skills across the broader team (regulation/finance/cost assessment etc).
* Providing strategic, regulatory and market advice, to corporate and infra fund clients, on energy transition segments.
* Providing energy transition strategic advice to regulated utilities in the UK, supporting them on future energy policies, regulatory modelling and valuations.
* Supporting the general origination effort of the team.
* Managing delivery of several engagements of different size on a day-to-day basis. Being responsible for the quality of deliverables produced for clients.
* Working closely with other colleagues in other parts of the Firm to develop and maintain business relationships with clients, in particular infrastructure investors.
* Providing effective management, coaching and mentoring of junior staff on specific engagements.
* Developing, inspiring and empowering team members in line with the firm’s values.
The projects that you will advise on will be high profile and varied focusing on energy transition of large and medium-size corporations. For example, the team has recently provided:
* Commercial advice on a takeover of a major energy company in Europe;
* Advised on the gas market prospects and dynamics in the context of a takeover of a large gas distribution company in the UK;
* Advised on the business options for unregulated businesses of water companies,:
* Advised gas network companies on the policy requirements for hydrogen;
* Advised a large utility on defining future energy scenarios in the UK and the impact on future TotEx and regulatory parameters, in the context of a transaction;
* Completed a strategic review of an energy efficiency company in Europe;
* Supported large regulated utilities on their strategies to deliver net zero and business plans more generally; and
* Helped to consider business strategies on major nuclear projects.
The person:
* Extensive experience in M&A advisory in the Power & Utilities sector, or in Consulting (strategy / management) in the energy sector.
* Experience of working on and managing transactions in utilities and infrastructure.
* Good understanding of transaction process and execution.
* Experience of working regulated utilities, and / or energy transition sectors such as energy efficiency, C&I solar, C&I decarbonisation, connections, metering, renewable generation.
* Have experience and understanding of key elements of energy policy and economic regulation of utilities.
* Ability to work at pace and during intense periods of live transactions.
* Excellent presentation and communications skills.
* Strong commercial awareness.

* Be an independent thinker with the ability to identify and solve problems.
