Sustainability Lead
Location: Essex
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + package

A leading construction organisation is seeking a Sustainability Lead to support major projects across Essex and the surrounding regions. This is a key role for someone passionate about environmental performance, low-carbon construction and driving sustainability standards across live construction sites.
You will act as the technical specialist on all sustainability, environmental and certification matters, working closely with project teams, supply chain and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet the highest standards of compliance and environmental best practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the main sustainability contact for project teams, providing expert technical guidance.
* Conduct regular site visits to monitor environmental compliance and best practice.
* Support the development and delivery of internal sustainability and environmental training.
* Prepare and maintain environmental and sustainability documentation, including CEMPs and pollution incident response plans.
* Support project teams in meeting planning conditions and organisational sustainability KPIs.
* Assist with building certification processes such as BREEAM and LEED, including evidence gathering and maintaining compliance trackers.
* Liaise with clients, consultants and supply chain to ensure certification requirements are understood and met.
* Identify and escalate risks related to certification targets or compliance shortfalls.
* Contribute to continuous improvements and knowledge-sharing across sustainability processes.
* Support delivery of company-wide ESG and sustainability strategy objectives.
About You
Essential:
* Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, ESG or similar.
* 3+ years’ experience supporting sustainability and environmental compliance within the construction or built environment sector.
* Experience supporting BREEAM / LEED or similar certification processes.
* Strong report writing, analytical and communication skills.
* Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
* BREEAM / LEED qualifications (e.g. AP).
* ISO14001 auditing experience.
* Experience undertaking environmental and social assessments.
* Knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA).
