Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Colorado (ACANC), Windsor, CO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Student Services

Work Days: Faculty Calendar Full-Time, Typical work day M-F,

Position Summary:

Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Colorado is seeking a dedicated and highly qualified Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in alignment with the school's classical education model. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and implementing best practices in special education.

This role involves working closely with general education teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualized instructional plans that support student success. The Special Education Teacher will provide direct instruction in one-on-one and small-group settings, assist with behavior management strategies, and promote student inclusion in general education classrooms..

Essential Functions:

* Maintain special education caseload with compliant timelines and best practice
o Provide one-on-one or small group support to reinforce lessons and concepts
o Tailor educational plans to meet each student's unique needs, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations
o Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, parents, and external stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and ensure the best outcomes for students. This involves regular meetings, clear documentation, and effective use of technology to share updates on student progress
o Help manage student behavior by using positive behavior strategies and interventions
o Monitor and support students in maintaining appropriate behaviors in various settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, and playground
o Implement behavior management plans
o Assist in setting up and organizing classroom materials and resources
o Support students with organizational and study skills, including note-taking, task completion, and time management
o Collect and record data on student performance and behavior
o Assist in monitoring student progress toward IEP goals
o Maintain accurate and confidential records of student information and interactions
o Provide support with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility, if required
o Assist with the use of adaptive equipment or technology
o Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
o Support students in developing social skills and peer relationships
o Promote inclusion by facilitating student participation in general education classrooms and school activities
o Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students
o Be prepared to respond to emergencies, following school protocols and providing necessary support
o Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
o Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

* Required: Bachelor's Degree / Preferred: Master's Degree
* Current Colorado licensure with the appropriate Special Education endorsement
* Experience with both pull-out and push-in modalities for service delivery preferred
* Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools of Colorado
* Knowledge of classical education (or the willingness and desire to learn)
* Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
* Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
* Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment, superior organization, and computer skills
* Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members
* Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
* Willingness to complete other related duties as requested

Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
* Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to teach each child
* Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing
* Must be able to supervise outdoors during recess or PE
