About The Department
The principal activity of WAEL is the operation of the Westminster Abbey shops on behalf of the Dean & Chapter. Other activities include catering, which is outsourced to a catering company (currently Benugo). Company profits are usually gift-aided to the Dean & Chapter of Westminster Abbey and the Westmonasterium Trust, and help to support the Abbey’s mission.
Currently we trade in the main shop at Great West Door, the Cellarium shop next to the restaurant, and online.
The shops form an integral part of an Abbey visit, with a wide array of exclusive gifts inspired by the Abbey’s links to the monarchy, its role as a living church, and its architecture, interior, collections and music. We work with artists, craftsmen and suppliers to produce unique products with a wide appeal. We also cater to non-Abbey visitors to London with a carefully selected range of souvenirs, books and gifts.
