About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Domestic Abuse Practitioner to support BAME women and their children within a specialist refuge service in Leicester.
You will provide safe, culturally sensitive support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence, and other forms of harm. This is a frontline role where you will help residents rebuild their confidence, independence, and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage referrals, admissions, and risk/needs assessments
Provide 1:1 emotional and practical support, including safety planning
Support access to housing, benefits, legal, health, and education services
Advocate for residents and attend key appointments
Deliver culturally appropriate support to BAME communities
Develop and review personalised support plans
Support safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
Assist with the day-to-day running of the refuge
Maintain accurate records and case notes
Participate in on-call/out-of-hours support
Requirements
Experience supporting BAME women affected by domestic abuse or similar
Background in social care, support work, or safeguarding (2-3 years)
Ability to speak at least one relevant BAME language
Strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills
Ability to manage complex and high-risk situations
Flexible approach to working hours (including on-call)
Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
Experience in the voluntary sector
Knowledge of NRPF, immigration, or complex needs
First Aid qualification
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
