CE Geochem are recruiting for Environmental Geochemists at all levels; Project Geochemist, Senior Geochemist and Principal Geochemist. Operating from our specialist geochemistry facilities in Matlock, Derbyshire, CE Geochem is an innovative SME working at the Cutting Edge of environmental science and technology. As an applied geochemistry company, we specialise in advanced test work and modelling studies for a global portfolio of clients across the contaminated land, groundwater remediation, waste management, nuclear and mining sectors.
Commensurate with experience, you will have a demonstrable knowledge of environmental technologies and remediation techniques including but not limited to; soil / mass stabilisation, chemical oxidation, permeable reactive barrier design, soil washing, sorbent engineering, in situ chemical reduction and bioremediation, as well as a thorough understanding of fate and transport modelling and human health toxicological modelling. Knowledge of Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) test methods is also highly desirable.
Key attributes, depending on the role and level of appointment, include;
* Ability to plan and execute advanced test work programmes
* Technical and commercial project management
* Excellent commercial and time management
* Experience of working within a research environment – you are likely to a PhD or MSc with significant research experience in environmental geochemistry or a closely related discipline (contaminant hydrogeology, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering)
* In depth knowledge of the UK contaminated land and international mining regulatory frameworks
* Meticulous attention to detail and ability to interrogate geochemical datasets
* Innovative thinker able to identify and solve complex problems through applied laboratory research and modelling
* Line management and supervision of technical staff for higher level appointments
* Effective communication with clients
* Excellent report writing skills
* Advanced level data manipulation – VBA and python programming an advantage
In addition, one or more of the following technical skill sets would be advantageous;
* Environmental mineralogy – XRD, XRF and FTIR
* Geochemical modelling – Phreeqc, Phreeqc.COM, Phreeplot, MINTEQ or Geochemists Workbench
* Strong solution chemist with previous experience of conducting and interpreting advanced leaching assessments, column studies and working with auto-titrators
* Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry with experience of field analytical techniques
* Static and kinetic testing for mine waste characterisation
* Risk model parameterisation studies such as sorption isotherms, bio-accessibility (oral and dermal) and natural attenuation processes
* Diffusive flux modelling within a hydrogeological risk assessment framework
* Cement chemistry including pozzolans, sorbents and reaction modifiers
* Modelling of geochemical kinetics
* Geotechnical laboratory testing / soil mechanics
