As a Strategic Commodity Buyer, you will source and procure engineered materials, components, and services. You will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure technical compliance, timely delivery, and value. The role involves leading VAVE initiatives aimed at cost reduction.
Responsibilities:
1. Source and procure mechanical, electrical, castings, and fabricated components aligned with engineering drawings and BOMs.
2. Interpret technical specifications and coordinate with suppliers for compliance with quality and performance standards.
3. Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to achieve cost savings and supply security.
4. Develop and nurture supplier relationships, including performance reviews and development programs.
5. Support new product introductions (NPIs) and design modifications in collaboration with engineering and production teams.
6. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with planning teams for timely replenishment.
7. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks such as obsolescence, long lead times, or single-source issues.
8. Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Experience:
1. Proven experience in technical buying or procurement within engineering or manufacturing sectors.
2. Experience across various industries is advantageous.
3. Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, fabrication, casting).
4. Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
5. Experience with VAVE initiatives.
6. Project management experience in re-sourcing activities.
7. Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
8. CIPS qualification or progress towards it is desirable.
9. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
10. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
