Overview

Royal Voluntary Service is hiring a Communications Officer to join the Communications Team. This is a full-time, permanent role based at home with occasional national travel. The salary is £26,173 per annum.


About the role

Royal Voluntary Service is developing a game-changing new digital platform to boost volunteering in Britain — funded by £5 million from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Launching in Autumn 2025, the platform will remove barriers to volunteering and make it easier for people to give their time and for organisations to recruit and retain support.


What you’ll bring to the Communications Officer role

Joining us as Communications Officer, you will support the development and delivery of effective communications to the charity’s external and internal stakeholders.

For external communications, you will help reach audiences including members of the public, charities and corporates, to raise awareness and engagement with the digital volunteering platform and marketplace. You will also develop compelling internal communications for volunteers, staff and supporters.

Hours: 35 per week

Location: Home-based with occasional national travel


Job Requirements

This is what we\'re looking for:


Knowledge

* A BA or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience is required
* A professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations or the Chartered Institute of Marketing can be helpful.


Skills

* This role requires confident writing at pace. The post holder must write in a variety of styles for different communications channels in a way that is engaging, grammatically correct and appropriate, maintaining the Royal Voluntary Service tone of voice.
* Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook
* Managing effective, mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues at all levels
* Strong communication skills across all levels, internal and external
* Creative thinking and problem solving
* Attention to detail


Experience

* At least two years working in a communications environment
* Experience using an email marketing platform, e.g. dotdigital or Mailchimp
* Effectively juggling multiple projects and deadlines at the same time and to a high standard


Job Responsibilities

* Support communications for internal and external audiences, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders and prospects.
* Produce compelling, snappy copy and source content including banners, video, infographics to engage volunteers, supporters and staff.
* Design and build campaigns across email platforms; Dotdigital, Microsoft Dynamics and HubSpot.
* Support data segmentation and provide analytical reporting of contact data as required.
* Apply email marketing best practice to increase engagement, test and evaluate, analyse impact and suggest improvements to maximise campaign effectiveness.
* Measure impact and effectiveness of e-communications and feed into regular reports to develop future goals.
* Manage Virtual Coffee Meetings for staff, collaborating to produce content and support Q&As.
* Manage staff communications including weekly staff communications (The Loop) and Retail communications (Retail Round Up) and posting on HiBob.
* Support creation and distribution of online surveys.
* Set up webinars for all audiences and provide promotion and technical support.
* Support the creation and build of nurture journeys in HubSpot.
* As a member of the communications team, assist with urgent communications on weekends when required.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post.
