Colorectal CNS Band 6

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the UHD Colorectal CNS team. We have the opportunity for a permanent post working across both sites of Bournemouth and Poole hospital. The successful applicant will work alongside the current Colorectal Cancer CNS Team in Poole.

The Band 6 Colorectal Cancer CNS plays a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence‑based, holistic care to patients with suspected or confirmed colorectal cancer throughout their pathway—from diagnosis through treatment to survivorship or palliative care.

The postholder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing expert nursing support, specialist education, and coordination of care. This includes supporting patients and families emotionally, practically, and clinically, while ensuring timely access to investigations, treatments, and follow‑up care.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse who is keen to make a difference in the care of those experiencing a life‑changing diagnosis. We are looking for someone who is highly‑organised, motivated to learn, with excellent communication and team‑working skills.

This role requires NMC Registration.

Base Location : Poole

Interview Date: 23rd March 2026


Main duties of the job

* Provide specialist nursing assessment and management of patients with colorectal cancer.
* Act as a key worker for patients on the colorectal cancer pathway, ensuring timely and coordinated care.
* Deliver nurse‑led clinics (e.g., results clinics, treatment support, survivorship or follow‑up).
* Provide information and psychological support to patients and carers at all stages of the pathway.
* Support the management of symptoms, treatment side effects, and holistic needs.
* Work closely with the MDT (surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, dietitians, stoma nurses, etc.) to ensure continuity of care.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* NMC Registered Nurse [RMN/RGN]
* Degree in nursing studies or equivalent nursing qualification
* Evidence of continual professional development
* Completion of UKONS SACT passport and evidence of SACT competency
* Advanced communication skills
* Psychological skills level 2


Knowledge and experience

* Demonstrable Oncology experience in acute or specialist care
* Experience working in an MDT
* Post reg experience at a senior level
* Experience with SACT / radiotherapy treatments
* Teaching experience


Technical Skills and competences

* IT Literacy using a range of current and relevant packages
* Ability to manage complex case loads and work independently
* Ability to manage difficult conversations


Personal Attributes

* Highly motivated
* Flexible to the needs of the service
* Proven evidence of good organisational skills
