About the Role
Mott MacDonald is actively looking for a senior-level Civil Engineer to lead a team of drainage engineers across the UK. The successful candidate will drive the design of sustainable drainage infrastructure on prestigious projects, contribute to climate‑change resilience, and help deliver innovative grey and blue‑green solutions.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of drainage design engineers, mentoring junior staff.
* Deliver projects on time and within budget, ensuring excellent technical delivery.
* Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports.
* Proactively manage design risk and produce constructable solutions.
* Represent Mott MacDonald in client meetings, building strong relationships and securing further work.
* Contribute to technical excellence and commercial success through forecasting, risk management and bid proposal production.
* Review health, safety, welfare and environmental impact in accordance with global standards.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Strong technical background in drainage design.
* Proven ability to deliver complex technical projects, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and technical standards.
* Demonstrable experience in managing small teams.
* Excellent communication skills and effective collaboration across internal multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Experience designing to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
* Experience in asset management and prioritising maintenance activities.
* Able to travel to other offices and sites as required.
* Experience preparing successful bids and client engagement.
