Offer description

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences was the first institution in the world to host a single honours degree programme in Sport Science back in 1975. We were also the first academic department to offer a single honours degree programme in Science and Football in 1998. The school continues to be at the forefront of development and innovation in sport and exercise sciences and is truly recognised as a world-leading department.

We are now looking for talented individuals to join our team as a Research Assistant in Biomechanics (Markerless Motion Capture). For this industry funded project, you will be responsible for organising and coordinating the collection of high-quality, synchronous, multi-camera video data across multiple exclusive real-world environments (capture volumes). Each capture volume requires a minimum of 24 cameras, and you will collect multiple participants completing a variety of activities of daily living (e.g., walk, jog, run, jump, hop, skip). You will work with Dr’s Rich Foster and Karl Gibbon to collect, process, and share the data that is collected with our industry partners. You will also contribute to research that aligns with the Biomechanics Research Group within the Research Institute.

To be successful you will have an honours degree in a related discipline along with experience of using 3D motion capture technology and appropriate data analysis/processing software. In addition, an ability to manage and conduct experimental laboratory studies, including participant recruitment and a strong knowledge of research methods and statistics is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

The School of Sport and Exercise Science is proud of its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and endeavours to cultivate a staff base that is representative of society. We therefore encourage applications from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, but would particularly encourage women, ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+, non-binary and individuals with a disability to apply. We welcome flexible working enquiries.
