We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our environmental DNA (eDNA) team. This role is ideal for recent graduates with a BSc. or MSc. in a relevant scientific discipline who are interested in applying molecular techniques to environmental monitoring and biodiversity research. The successful candidate will support lab operations with a focus on assembling eDNA sample collection kits, coordinating kit logistics, and processing eDNA samples.
Key Responsibilities
* Assemble eDNA Sample Collection Kits
* Prepare and package kits according to strict quality control standards
* Maintain inventory of kit components
* Logistics Coordination
* Coordinate shipping of kits to clients and field teams
* Receive incoming eDNA samples and ensure proper documentation and storage
* Sample Processing and eDNA Purification
* Extract DNA from eDNA samples using standardised protocols from a variety of sample types
* Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory activities
* General Laboratory Support
* Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and workspace
* Adhere to lab safety and contamination prevention protocols
* Support additional research and QA/QC tasks as needed
Qualifications
* BSc. or MSc. in Biology, Environmental Science, Molecular Biology, or related field
* Basic laboratory experience, preferably with DNA extraction and/or molecular biology techniques
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
* Excellent time management and communication skills
* Familiarity with chain-of-custody procedures and sample tracking is a plus
Working Conditions
* Laboratory-based
* Handling of environmental samples, including water, sediment and faecal samples
* Standard working hours with occasional flexibility during high-volume periods

Pay: £25,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
