Main purpose of the role & responsibilities in the business
As a Platform Technical Architect (Consultant) in Kainos, you’ll be responsible for leading teams developing high quality solutions on public cloud which delight our customers. You’ll work with customer architects to design, automate, build and support modern digital service platforms, advising on estimated effort and technical implications of user stories and decisions. It’s a fast-paced environment and you’ll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions as you continually learn and apply new technologies and approaches with talented colleagues.
Key responsibilities
* Work as part of a wider team to provide leadership with colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management and security to design high-quality solutions that meet non-functional requirements.
* Keep apprised of latest technologies and ensure they are used to maximize user and business benefit.
* Offer opinions and critique to improve solutions and proactively share knowledge internally within Kainos and the industry.
* Help qualify and win new opportunities for Kainos.
* Provide technical leadership on delivery and support projects, making necessary but sometimes difficult decisions.
* Foster a DevOps culture, model Kainos values, and build trust through transparent, justified decisions.
* Manage, coach and develop a small number of staff, supporting performance and career development, and provide direction to colleagues to solve challenging problems together.
* Be adaptable to customer engagements and continually learn new skills with support from Learning & Development and Architecture teams.
Minimum (essential) requirements
* Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly convey technical design to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Proven experience in team leadership and supporting a DevOps culture on delivering complex projects.
* Demonstrated ability to coach and develop junior team members and the wider community.
* Ownership of building and operating modern digital service platforms (architecture, estimation, planning, non-functional requirements, continuous improvement) using modern agile techniques.
* Implementing robust security controls and monitoring across infrastructure and application components.
* Ability to make effective decisions in fast-moving delivery environments.
* Extensive experience designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring and supporting modern digital service platforms in production; familiarity with continuous delivery for production releases; automation tooling in PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, or Groovy.
* Experience using public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and SaaS or PaaS offerings to solve business problems.
* Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes; applying configuration management and infrastructure provisioning tooling.
Desirable
* Third level qualification or equivalent in a related discipline.
* Public cloud certifications (AWS/Azure).
* Certification in a specialty area (e.g., Kubernetes CKAD).
* Experience with Cloud Native tooling and approaches; active participation in communities of practice.
