Machine operator

JDR Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Machine Operator on behalf of our manufacturing client based in Baglan, Port Talbot.

This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to secure a permanent contract with the client upon successful completion of 12 weeks' service.

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a rotating continental shift pattern consisting of 12-hour shifts:

• Week 1: 5 shifts on, 2 shifts off
• Week 2: 2 shifts on, 5 shifts off

You will work:

• 2 weeks of day shifts
• Followed by 2 weeks of night shifts

Pay Rate

• £12.71 per hour
• Temporary to Permanent after 12 weeks

The Role

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring extrusion machinery within a busy manufacturing environment. This is a physically demanding role that involves repetitive manual handling and prolonged periods of standing throughout the shift.

You will be required to lift and empty raw material bags weighing up to 25kg into the extrusion machinery. Due to the manufacturing process, which involves expanding raw materials using heat, temperatures within the department can become particularly warm.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating and monitoring extrusion machinery
• Loading raw materials into production equipment
• Lifting and emptying 25kg bags of raw material into the machine
• Carrying out routine quality checks on finished products
• Monitoring machine performance and reporting faults
• Adjusting machine settings where required
• Ensuring production targets and quality standards are achieved
• Completing production paperwork and records accurately
• Following all health and safety procedures
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work environment

Candidate Requirements

• Previous machine operating, manufacturing, or production experience is desirable
• Comfortable working rotating day and night shifts
• Physically fit and capable of repetitive lifting duties
• Able to work in a warm manufacturing environment
• Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
• Strong attention to detail and a positive work ethic
