James Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering free clinical services. We are recruiting a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist for our new centre in Birmingham, opening early 2026.
About James Place
We have centres in Newcastle, Liverpool and London; we will open a fourth centre in Birmingham. Our therapists deliver a proven clinical service quickly at crisis point, having treated over 4,300 men.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside the Head of Centre to manage and support the clinical team in delivering the unique intervention and co‑producing effective safety plans.
* Lead, supervise and develop the team; support men experiencing a suicidal crisis and their supporters.
* Shape local culture and support safe practices.
* Provide training and support to team members.
Requirements
* Current UK professional registration (NMC, HCPC, Social Work England, BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent).
* Experience leading, supervising and developing a team.
* Experience with risk assessment, case management, reflective practice and safe working.
* Demonstrable knowledge of suicidal risk factors and male suicide.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, time‑management and record‑keeping skills.
* Commitment to continued professional development.
* Safe handling of safeguarding procedures.
Professional Qualifications
* A core profession such as Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Counselling Practitioner or Psychologist, with relevant registration.
* Accreditation as a psychological therapist, psychotherapist or counsellor by BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent, or awaiting accreditation.
Salary & Contract
£38,000 per year pro rata, permanent contract, part‑time, based at Edgbaston, Birmingham (B15 3AA).
