Overview
We are looking for a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer to join our friendly multi-professional radiotherapy team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. Torbay delivers a range of techniques, including Lung and Bone SABR and is actively engaged in research with both commercial and non-commercial trials. The post holder will rotate through pre-treatment to include RT-CT and pre-treatment data entry, and will work on the linear accelerators providing safe and accurate radiotherapy treatment.
You will join an exciting program including commissioning and installation of SGRT on our linacs and RT-CT scanner, and the implementation of a new electronic patient record planned for 2026. The department is small, with opportunities for involvement in clinical trials and an embedded research radiographer within the oncology research and development team.
Responsibilities
* Provide safe and accurate radiotherapy planning and treatment to patients across a broad range of tumour sites.
* Work as part of the radiotherapy team on the linear accelerators, including pre-treatment duties and data entry (RT-CT).
* Support the team leader in day-to-day management of patient workflow and clinical workload.
* Contribute to flexible service delivery to meet changing service demands.
* Maintain exceptional patient care at all times.
* Assist with trial participation and integration with the department’s research activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Completion of Preceptorship period or appropriate previous experience at Band 5.
* Robust general knowledge of CT anatomy.
* Ability to communicate complex condition/treatment-related information with empathy, sensitivity and reassurance to patients and carers.
* Experience acquiring patient images/outlines using CT and dosimetry.
* Reflective and self-appraising attitude.
Additional Information
* We have independent prescribers in several specialist radiographer roles and involve active collaboration with clinical trials.
* Future plans include SGRT implementation in Summer 2025, Mosaiq upgrade by end of 2025, EPIC implementation in Spring 2026, and selection/commissioning of a new Treatment Planning System, with long-term back-to-back Linac replacement programs.
