Therapeutic Practice Lead - Complex Mental Health & Trauma
Innovations in Care Ltd is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Mental Health Nurse to lead the management of our most complex client cases. This senior position has been created in response to increasing service complexity and legal oversight requirements. You will oversee the implementation of clinical care plans approved by the Court of Protection, ensuring all care provided is legally compliant, clinically sound, and person-centred.
You will work closely with clients, staff teams, families, and multi-disciplinary stakeholders to deliver compassionate, safe, and therapeutically informed support. You will also provide clinical supervision, lead reflective practice, and contribute to staff training in areas including physical restraint, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support.

Main duties of the job
The Therapeutic Practice Lead - Complex Mental Health & Trauma is a senior specialist role responsible for overseeing the care of clients with complex mental health needs, emotional dysregulation, and personality disorder. Working within a trauma-informed, person-centred framework, the postholder ensures that clinical care plans, often developed under the oversight of the Court of Protection, are implemented safely and in line with legal and best practice standards.
They will liaise with external professionals, provide clinical supervision to staff, support the appropriate use of physical intervention, lead debriefs, and contribute to safeguarding processes. A key part of the role involves developing and delivering training aligned with current best practices in areas such as PBS, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care.
We are therefore seeking someone with a strong understanding of mental health legislation and a genuine passion for teaching and practice development.

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee a small caseload (approx. 5 clients) with complex mental health needs, emotional dysregulation, and/or personality disorder diagnoses.
* Ensure implementation of clinical care plans developed by external MDTs and approved by the Court of Protection.
* Monitor compliance with legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and associated case law and guidance.
* Support staff to deliver therapeutic and legally appropriate care, including in high-risk or restrictive environments.
Legal and Safeguarding Responsibilities
* Liaise with legal teams, advocates, and the Court of Protection as needed.
* Attend case conferences and hearings where required and contribute to formal court reporting.
* Collaborate with the Safeguarding Lead (Registered Manager) on safeguarding concerns, risk management, and incident follow-up.
Clinical Practice and Team Support
* Deliver clinical supervision to staff, including structured reflection and practice development.
* Support and lead debriefs following incidents, especially involving restraint or emotional distress.
* Support a culture of compassionate, trauma-informed, and person-centred care.
* Provide on-the-ground clinical support to staff managing emotionally complex and high-risk behaviours.
Training and Development
* Design and deliver training on physical intervention, PBS, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care.
* Mentor and coach staff in evidence-based practices.
* Ensure restraint care plans are followed and physical interventions are used appropriately.
Professional Representation
* Represent Innovations in Care Ltd at external meetings and panels.
* Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders including NHS teams, AMHPs, solicitors, families, and clinicians.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
* Current NMC registration.
* BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Training or teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education & Training).
* NMC Approved Mentorship/Clinical Supervision Qualification.
* Postgraduate qualification (Certificate, Diploma, or MSc).
* BILD/RRN Instructor Status (training can be provided).
Experience
* Extensive post-qualification experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, emotional dysregulation, or personality disorders.
* Experience with legal frameworks including the Court of Protection, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
* Experience in a senior or autonomous clinical role.
* Developing and overseeing care plans and risk assessments.
* Strong multi-agency working skills.
* Experience with physical intervention, restraint, and high-risk settings.
* Training delivery and supervision experience.
* Experience in secure, forensic, or inpatient mental health services.
* Developing training packages aligned with standards and guidelines.
* Contributing to service development and quality assurance.
* Mentoring staff in complex or community settings.
Knowledge & Skills

Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 per year, dependent on skills and experience.
