Our Development team specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning through to full implementation. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Utilities Coordination/Diversion on Residential, Retail, Industrial, Commercial, Educational and Healthcare Developments in the UK.
The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi‑disciplinary projects.
All staff are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE, IHT, CIWEM or equivalent Engineering organisations; and staff will benefit from internal and external training opportunities provided.

A Little More About Your Role
The management of utilities risk is of great importance to our clients. Issues such as capacity shortages, diversionary and protection works, and commercialisation opportunities require a particular skill set to manage. As a Senior Member of the Utilities Team within Development you will lead engagement with and advise clients on technical utilities matters. Your deep understanding of utility constraints and opportunities will enable you to manage project teams in the UK and internationally, finding innovative technical solutions and developing designs for implementation.
Works may cover the full project spectrum from Concept and Feasibility through to Detailed Design. You will lead on the master‑planning, coordination and design of Multi‑Utility infrastructure and be at the forefront of project and commercial management for utility projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Flexible working out of our UK offices (base office flexible).
* Lead a wide variety of utility projects from local schemes to national significance.
* Work within multidisciplinary teams in the UK and internationally and manage coordinated project delivery.
* Provide an experienced senior point of contact for the Development team and clients on key projects.
* Drive business growth with existing clients and develop new client relationships.
* Work closely with a diverse range of clients to deliver complex and interesting schemes to the highest standards, budget, and programme.
* Mentor and develop our growing team.
* Provide the expected quality of service for our clients and uphold our professional reputation.
* Deliver a high level of commercial awareness, project/programme management, and efficient problem solving.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
* Chartered Engineer or open/working towards Chartered Engineer status.
* Civil Engineering Degree, or similar equivalent qualification.
* Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies for small, medium and large schemes in the UK.
* Rounded understanding of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks, in relation to new development activities.
* Experience of Multi‑Utility / iDNO / ICP and commercial risk/opportunities.
* Ability to develop utility demand calculations based on the needs of a development.
* Proven ability to lead teams, manage and work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time and your project teams between them.
* Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with co‑professionals and deliver high quality reports.
* Experience in directing BIM teams (AutoCAD / Civils 3D / Revit etc) in their production of quality project models and design outputs.
* Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
* Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
