Job Description
The Environment Agency is committed to an inclusive workforce and seeks an urban drainage advisor with sewer hydraulic modelling experience. This role joins a national, dispersed team that designs, implements and audits new regulatory approaches to improve sewerage operations and reduce storm and emergency overflow.
As part of this role you will:
* Develop and refine sewer hydraulic and river quality impact models for Urban Pollution Management (UPM) studies, including model audits and quality assurance.
* Use your modelling expertise to inform guidance, support programme delivery and advise on regulatory changes.
* Lead the creation of audit processes for water‑quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Co‑develop training courses on UPM, respond to technical queries, and coach staff on sewerage and water‑quality investigations.
* Collaborate with internal and external partners across the country to embed new approaches and drive organisational improvement.
* Optionally take on an incident response role, providing business continuity support during incidents and receiving additional training and payment if chosen.
Qualifications and Experience
A relevant degree in civil engineering, geography, environmental science or a related discipline is desirable, though other qualifications may be considered along with demonstrable professional experience.
* Experience of sewer hydraulic and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and the regulation of water and sewerage companies.
* Excellent organisational and coaching skills, with a proven ability to embed new processes across dispersed teams.

Additional Information
Office base location is flexible; occasional travel or overnight stays for meetings may be required.
