Are you curious about heritage artefacts? Do you enjoy working collaboratively with various teams to deliver projects?
About us
The 545-acre Science and Innovation Park (SIP) is the home of the Science Museum Group's collection, transforming how we care for, manage, and make accessible over 400,000 objects and 1.5 million items in our Library and Archive. Our new collections management facility, the Hawking Building, houses everything from microscope slides to railway carriages, with additional objects stored across other facilities within the Park.
We have an exciting programme of capital works planned, including improvements to our collection stores, roof repairs, BMS system upgrades, wayfinding installations, and feasibility studies for future projects.
To support these initiatives, we are looking for a Collections Services Team Leader on a permanent, full-time basis.
About the role
You will work alongside Conservation, Storage & Logistics teams, and Capital Project Managers to oversee the impact of construction projects on collections. This includes relocating objects, preparing protection measures, and supervising contractors.
Supported by the Group Collections Storage & Logistics Manager and the wider Collections Services team, you will ensure collection needs are integrated into projects, coordinate collection movements and protections, share lessons learned, and prioritize collection safety.
This role offers hybrid working in line with SMG policies. While access to a vehicle is advantageous due to the Park's location, it is not mandatory. We provide interest-free loans for travel-related expenses like season tickets, bicycles, mopeds, or scooters.
About you
We seek candidates with strong project coordination experience and practical knowledge of heritage collections care, including handling, storage, and movement of diverse objects. You should be confident in making evidence-based decisions, using initiative to solve challenges, and managing contractors effectively. Strong organizational skills and stakeholder coordination are essential.
If your experience doesn't match all criteria, we encourage you to apply, as transferable skills may be a good fit for this or other roles.
