Originally established as one of the UK's first gay helplines, the Centre has spent nearly 50 years advocating for the rights, wellbeing, and visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals. Our mission is to continue championing equality and inclusion across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, creating safe and supportive spaces for all LGBTQ+ individuals.
About the Role
We are looking for reliable and welcoming Sessional Support Workers to support the smooth running of our small community groups and activities. In this role, you will be a key part of creating a safe and affirming environment, ensuring all visitors feel welcomed, included, and supported.
This is a flexible, sessional role, and you will be called upon as and when required to support our various groups.
Your Key Responsibilities will include:
* Acting as a friendly and welcoming face for visitors attending our groups and activities.
* Providing a supportive, inclusive, and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.
* Assisting with the set-up of spaces before group activities (e.g. arranging chairs, preparing refreshments, organising resources).
* Helping to facilitate group activities as required, supporting staff, volunteers, and participants.
* Offering a listening ear and signposting participants to further support or services when appropriate.
* Tidying and packing away equipment and resources at the end of sessions.
* Adhering to the charity's safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality and diversity policies.
* Reporting any issues or concerns to the group coordinator or designated staff member.
About You: Person Specification
We are looking for someone with a clear passion for and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.

* The ability to help create an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ people from diverse backgrounds.
* To be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexibly on a sessional basis.
* To be comfortable working as part of a team and supporting group activities.
* Basic organisational skills to help with setting up and tidying up.
* A willingness to attend sessions, sometimes at short notice.
* A full driving licence and use of a car.
It would also be great if you have (Desirable Criteria):
* GCSEs in English and Maths.
* A strong commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding practices.
* Experience of working or volunteering with community groups within the voluntary sector.
* Knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and the barriers some individuals may face.
* Experience in group facilitation or supporting activities.
* First Aid or safeguarding training (or a willingness to undertake this training).

The hours entered in the job posting details are an estimate for platform purposes only and do not constitute a contractual obligation.
Pay: £12.21 per hour
Expected hours: 2 – 12 per week
