Protocol Education is working with a number of welcoming and inclusive schools across Bedminster who are looking for calm, reliable and supportive staff to work with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and additional Special Educational Needs (SEN).
These roles are ideal for people who are passionate about supporting young people who may find aspects of school life challenging and need a consistent, understanding adult to help them feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
You don’t need formal qualifications or previous school experience to be considered. Schools are very open to backgrounds such as youth work, care work, coaching, mentoring, retail, hospitality or any role where you’ve supported or worked with young people. What matters most is your attitude, resilience and ability to build positive relationships.
The Role
You’ll be supporting pupils in either mainstream classrooms, small groups, or alternative provision settings. Your focus will be on helping young people stay engaged, manage emotions and access learning in a way that works for them.
* Supporting pupils to stay on task and complete learning activities
* Helping to create a calm, structured and predictable environment
* Building strong, trusting relationships with students
* Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour using consistent approaches
* De‑escalating situations calmly and safely when needed
* Working closely with teachers and support staff
* Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Every day is different, and the role suits someone who can stay steady, patient and positive even when things are unpredictable.
About You

* Can build trust and positive relationships with young people
* Communicate clearly and confidently
* Understand that behaviour is a form of communication
* Are willing to learn and take guidance from school teams
* Have a genuine interest in supporting children with SEMH/SEN needs
Experience is helpful but absolutely not essential. Many of the best staff in these roles come from completely different backgrounds.
