Laboratory Assistant - (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract)
Diagnostic Laboratories
We are looking for a highly motivated, organised person to work within the RVC Diagnostic Laboratories for a full-time 12 month fixed term contract.
Your time will be divided between two main areas- you will be responsible for the preparation of various types of media for our Microbiology Laboratory, and you will support the Sample Reception Team in the recording of samples and tests in our electronic laboratory database.
The role will require you to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to work under aseptic conditions to create different media types, and to use an autoclave. You will also receive and collect biological samples from both external internal and clients, recording all details onto our laboratory database, labelling, and distributing these within the laboratory disciplines.
You will also be expected to perform general duties within the laboratory, including maintaining consumable stocks, liaising with our external laundry service, and ensure that all incoming deliveries are distributed appropriately within the laboratories.
You will possess excellent communication skills, be able to maintain a high level of attention to detail and work in an efficient and organised manner. Computer literacy, accurate data entry skills, and a science related degree, HND/HNC or similar are essential for this role. Previous experience of working within a laboratory environment is required. Full training in the respective disciplines will be provided.
