Overview
We are looking for a Lead Autism Support Worker (LASW) to join our child-centred team. Springfields is a vibrant and caring community that engages pupils and develops positive attitudes to learning. Our autism approach is personalised to meet specific needs, and all pupils have an education, health and care plan. The Springfields Academy is a Reach South Academy for young people aged 4-19 with autism, and we hold the NAS Advanced specialist award. We are recognised as an Ofsted good school with around 250 pupils on roll. The role is to lead interventions, cover classes and support autistic learners, working as part of our therapy-first culture and in collaboration with our multi-disciplinary therapy team.
Responsibilities
* Lead interventions and cover classes as required.
* Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils in learning and social skills activities.
* Develop safe, stimulating and supportive learning environments, taking time to understand each pupil’s individual needs.
* Work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary therapy team to support therapy-first approaches.
* Use positive and personalised strategies to support anxiety management and wellbeing.
Qualifications and Skills
* Good knowledge and understanding of autism and social communication needs, and appropriate strategies to support pupils with this needs (e.g., TEACCH).
* Knowledge of social, emotional & mental health needs and cognitive needs affecting development.
* Track record of successfully leading groups and supporting learners.
* Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues; excellent listening skills.
* Resilient and able to take regular responsibility for learning activities.
* Able to work as part of a team in a busy school environment and collaborate with other professionals.
