Trainee Port Operative vacancy
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Associate to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in our Port Terminal Operations, ensuring efficient operations through effective material handling and receiving processes. This position requires a strong work ethic and the ability to perform manual handling as part of daily responsibilities.
Rate of pay : Rate of £12.44 per hour
Holiday : 20 Days plus Bank holidays. An additional 1 days holiday will be granted per 12 months continuously employed up to a maximum of 25 days.
Working hours : 40 hours per week. 07:00-04:00 Monday to Friday. Start and finish times may vary subject to operational requirements.
Overtime : Work carried out in addition to the 8 hour day will be paid at the hourly rate x 1.5 (Time and a half).
Responsibilities
* Operate various port equipment, including forklifts, to facilitate the loading and unloading of goods.
* Slinger / Signaller duties. (training provided)
* Perform manual handling tasks as required, moving materials throughout the port.
* Operating a terminal tug to transport cargo from the quay to various positions in the port.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of tasks and support overall Port efficiency.
* De-vaning containers via forklift truck.
* General yard duties such cleaning up work areas and securing loose packs of timber.
Requirements
* Must be 18 years old or above.
* Previous experience in a port setting is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
* Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues as they arise.
* Proficiency in materials handling techniques and best practices desirable.
* Ability to operate a forklift safely; certification is advantageous but not mandatory as training may be provided.
* Capability to perform heavy lifting tasks (up to 25 kg) consistently throughout the shift.
* Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
* A proactive attitude towards teamwork and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
* Flexibility to work weekends when required.
