Job Overview
The SEN Teacher will support the Deputy Head Teacher and Head Teacher in running an independent Welsh-regulated school by providing specialist education for children with complex learning disabilities. They will work closely with staff, SMT, Registered Manager, parents and external agencies to ensure the delivery of high-quality education tailored to the individual needs of our pupils. This role requires a dedicated and experienced individual who can support the leadership team to improve outcomes for children with additional learning needs, supporting staff development, and promoting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Pastoral
* Ensure robust safeguarding practices throughout the school.
* Support the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher in ensuring compliance with Estyn and Independent School Standards (Wales).
* Contribute to health and safety, risk assessment, and safer recruitment practices.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, promoting emotional safety and a sense of belonging.
* Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with school policy, acting as a key adult and advocate for pupils.

* Lead on incidents and model strong behaviour management in line with pupil behaviour management plan.
* Support staff development in managing incidents safely alongside any personal care needs.
Classroom Leadership
* Support the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher on representing the school's vision, values, and strategic priorities.
* Work with and support the school staff to ensure they continuously work on the school improvement planning and self-evaluation in line with Estyn's inspection framework.
* Work and comply with the strategic development of the school's provision for learners with complex learning disabilities and associated needs.
* Lead a class team including HLTA's and / or TA's, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and that support is effective.
* Provide clear direction, modelling high expectations for behaviour, communication, and learning.
* Foster a collaborative classroom ethos, supporting HLTA / TA professional development and contributions to pupil outcomes.
Essential Qualifications:
* Education qualification, or ideally gained or working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of special education and leadership.
Experience
* Experience teaching children or young people with complex SEN, including autism and/or PMLD.
* Sound knowledge of the ALNET (Wales) Act, curriculum adaptations, and inclusive pedagogies.
* Strong planning, assessment, and classroom management skills within a SEN setting.
* A nurturing, person-centred approach with high expectations for all learners.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Experience in developing and implementing tailored educational plans for children with complex needs.
