Main purpose of job
The British High Commission in Kingston is seeking to recruit an experienced Cleaner who, under the guidance and direction of the Estates & Facilities Manager, will carry out general cleaning and maintenance of the office and amenity areas across the compound.
The Cleaner will work as part of a wider team within the Technical Works Group performing cleaning duties and supporting overall maintenance standards. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake mandatory training following recruitment, to include Health and Safety and basic First Aid training.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Replace supplies in offices bathrooms and all buildings on compound.
2. General cleaning of offices, bathrooms, amenity and security areas on compound.
3. Remove trash as required.
4. Clean all surfaces including desks and chairs items.
5. Dust, polish and remove marks from walls and furnishings.
6. Clean appliances in kitchenettes.
7. Vacuum carpets and floor care duties.
8. Any other task that may be assigned from time to time.
9. Manage the Cleaning Stores inventory.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
10. Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
11. Trustworthy, polite, punctual and self-motivated.
12. Flexible, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
13. Legal status to live and work in Jamaica in your own right, from time of application.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
14. First Aid trained.

Candidates must have the legal status to live and work in Jamaica at time of application. The successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Police Clearance Certificate before starting work.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
