Birmingham Airport is seeking an Airfield Safety Officer (ASO) to provide front-line operational oversight of all airfield activities. The ASO will ensure a safe environment is maintained in line with regulatory requirements, providing assurance that assets and infrastructure are operated safely under the Aerodrome Licence. This role also involves monitoring and mitigating wildlife hazards and working collaboratively across a diverse team to maintain airfield safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain airfield safety by ensuring compliance with the Aerodrome Licence and related operational procedures.
2. Monitor and manage wildlife hazards and other potential risks to aircraft safety.
3. Conduct inspections of aerodrome works and ensure Risk and Method Statements are followed.
4. Support the implementation of BAL’s Emergency and Snow Plans.
5. Participate in safety meetings, audits, and safety promotion activities.
6. Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities to enhance safety and operational performance.
Experience Required:
7. Proven experience in a compliance, regulatory, or safety-focused role, ideally in aviation or a similarly regulated environment.
8. Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
9. Strong communication skills to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
10. Flexibility to work shift patterns, including nights, on a 4-on/4-off schedule.
11. Ability to assess risks and adapt to continuous improvement initiatives in a dynamic environment.
12. Relevant permits or the ability to obtain them, including UK Firearms & Shotgun licenses, Airside Driving Permits, Marshalling Permit, and Class 2 Driving Permit (DVLA Class C equivalent).
