We are thrilled to announce a major contract win with Southern Water and are recruiting a number of Drainage Engineers to work in 2‑person teams across Hampshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a new career with a leading independent infrastructure delivery partner.
About the Role
As an HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer you will travel to residential sites, use high‑pressure water jetting and vacuum tankers, maintain drainage systems, record jobs on specialist equipment, and provide excellent customer service. You will work flexible hours, including weekends and an on‑call rota, and will receive full training, PPE, and company equipment.
Responsibilities
* Travel to sites via HGV in a two‑person team and operate high‑pressure water jetting and vacuum tankers.
* Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems.
* Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
* Run diagnostics and repairs on drains.
* Deliver good customer service.
* Maintain good health and safety practice while carrying out work.
* Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
* Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE, safe site set‑ups and protection for employees, the public and other road users.
* Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
* Operate JHL specification vacuum tankers and associated equipment.
* Safely access vehicle cabs, sites and offices using correct procedures.
* Manipulate flexible pipework safely, utilising correct manual handling techniques.
* Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, wearing correct PPE or utilising the lone worker system.
* Dynamically risk‑assess site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
* Liaise with the client regarding process and any updates.
* Provide support to colleagues.
* Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
* Report any defects or malfunctions.
* Carry out risk assessments and adopt a mature approach to risk perception.
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
* Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc tasks, duties or projects as requested by management.
Qualifications
* Minimum of a HGV Class 2 licence.
* Completion of the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
* Up‑to‑date digital tachograph card.
* Experience with high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential.
* Other drainage qualifications (e.g., NRSWA, Confined Spaces) are an advantage.
* Hardworking, respectful, and compliant with health and safety standards.
