This role is for a Level 4 Apprentice within the Respiratory Investigations Unit (RIU), currently providing diagnostic testing, both invasive and non-invasive, for in-patients and outpatients at Wexham Park Hospital, King Edward VII Hospital, Heatherwood, Frimley Park Hospital, and the upcoming Slough CDC.
The Slough Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is a new, purpose-built two-floor health facility opening in January 2026. It will operate 7 days a week, offering extensive diagnostic services to meet local healthcare needs.
Working conditions may include 12-hour days, weekends, and site rotation. The initial contract is fixed-term at Band 4 for 36 months, with 24-27 months dedicated to studying towards a Healthcare Science Associate apprenticeship (Level 4). Successful applicants will need to engage with the apprenticeship for about 6 hours weekly.
Upon qualification, there is potential to transition into a substantive Band 4 Associate Physiologist role. Applicants should demonstrate an interest and qualification in science. Opportunities for career progression within the NHS are available.

Key responsibilities include:
* Performing routine and specialist procedures with supervision, requiring proficient knowledge and skills, to obtain high-quality diagnostic information across all ages.
* Investigating respiratory functions such as dynamic lung volumes, FeNo measurement, response to bronchodilators, static lung volumes, transfer factor, pulse oximetry, neuromuscular assessments, sleep studies, and more.
* Conducting pre-test assessments to identify risks and ensure patient safety.
* Assisting with specialized investigations like cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, Methacholine Challenge, CPAP setup, and blood gas sampling.
* Communicating complex instructions effectively to patients and relatives, ensuring cooperation and accurate data collection.
