Description: Responsible for managing the overall environmental, health and safety (EH&S) activities with the primary goal of preventing loss and liability. To ensure that all activities are controlled using suitable management systems that comply with regulatory requirements, in particular the COMAH and EPR regulations.
Responsibilities Of All Employees Under COMAH
* Understand the MAPP – Major Accident Prevention Policy / Plan and Safety and Environment Management Systems.
* Comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements.
* Inspect and use plant equipment, machinery, and PPE correctly, report defects, and take corrective actions as needed.
* Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
* Act in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
* Ensure proper assessment and authorization before using new equipment or modifying processes.
* Undertake work only for which properly trained.
* Respond appropriately in emergencies, including participating in emergency response teams.
Management responsibilities under COMAH
* Ensure understanding and compliance with MAPP among employees and visitors.
* Maintain safety and environmental protection equipment.
* Regularly review risk assessments and control measures.
* Provide adequate training and investigate incidents thoroughly.
* Ensure changes to systems are assessed and approved.
* Monitor workplace compliance and perform inspections and audits.
* Act as Incident Officer during emergencies and coordinate emergency drills.
Role Specific Responsibilities
* Ensure awareness of major accident hazards and competence in control systems.
* Implement and audit safety management systems, stay updated on legislation and standards.
* Manage environmental, safety, and health duties for facility operation.
* Promote safety culture through leadership.
* Manage safety policies, risk assessments, incident investigations, and emergency planning.
* Lead process hazard assessments and liaise with authorities.
* Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and monitor compliance.
* Coordinate safety programs and training.
* Advise on legal compliance and prepare reports.
* Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training.
Knowledge & Skills
* Legislation related to Safety & Environment.
* MS Office skills – Excel, Word & Visio.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Recognized Process Safety Management training.
