Role Description
Allianz Specialty has a fantastic opportunity for a Product Owner to join our family of talented people in the Transformation Change Team. As Product Owner you will lead a member of the Scrum team, supporting change throughout the full development process from concept to delivery. You will evaluate all opportunities and prioritise what gets built and delivered through a clear concise backlog.
Salary
Circa £45,000
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
Key Accountabilities
Stakeholder Management
* Understand the technology product/applicant and manage stakeholder understanding of its functionality.
* Good knowledge of one or more business domains; expected to develop business knowledge within the role.
* Regularly demo Scrum team progress with support from the team to keep business areas aware of change ahead of releases.
* Have strong communication skills working closely with your Scrum Master and managing cross‑team changes with other Product Owners, Project Managers, and Release Train Engineers.
PI Planning
* Prepare for the Program Increment planning by reviewing and contributing to the Product vision, roadmap and content presentations.
* Actively engage with user story definition, provide clarifications to enable the Scrum team to create their story estimates and sequencing.
* Work with Scrum team to determine the team PI objectives for the upcoming PI.
Backlog Maintenance
* Act as the customer proxy to define and prioritise stories in the team backlog.
* Ensure the backlog is appropriately prioritised, visible, clear and refined ahead of sprint planning.
* Make decisions on behalf of the business on which user stories are accepted or rejected and in which sprint they will be developed.
* Maintain awareness of wider portfolios to ensure the backlog accurately reflects support of wider initiatives that may require additional resources.
Scrum Team Engagement
* Influence the Scrum team to engage actively with backlog refinement and user story writing and make yourself available to answer their questions.
* Confirm the definition of “Done” is in line with expectations and is complete.
* Work closely with the Scrum Master to get early feedback on delivery progress.
* Align with fellow Product Owners, Business Owners and Programme Leads to ensure design, build and test cycles are aligned.
Decision Making
* Sign off on all development work completed in the sprints, ensuring quality delivery and fit for purpose.
* Be available to the Scrum team, make day‑to‑day decisions, and give quick concise decisions to help the team pivot and change direction rapidly when required.
* Maintain a well‑defined backlog of future change items so they can be considered in future planning.
Escalation
* Take responsibility to escalated deviations/dependencies within the domain, ensuring company visions are met and delivery plans remain on track.
Technical Skills
* Some technical understanding of current company system applications and business processes.
* Critical thinking generated by observation, experience, reflection, reasoning and communication.
* A basic understanding of Agile methodology with experience using frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban.
Experience
* No previous Product Owner experience required, but a good understanding of the role and a willingness to learn.
* Previous experience working in insurance or financial services.
* Some business knowledge with a wider understanding of the Mid‑Corporate business vision.
* Experience working within a digital environment.
* Experience of changing technology and processes.
* Good communication skills and stakeholder management.
* Ability to work alongside and energise a cross‑functional experienced team.
* Self‑motivated.
* Not afraid to take a risk‑based approach to decision making.
* A strong team player.
