Job Description:
Weston College is the regional provider for the Prison Education Framework (PEF) across the South West of England and is now seeking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Lecturer in Functional Skills at HMP Portland.
This is a part-time position, working 16 hours per week. The successful candidate will need to be willing to work Monday and Tuesday, 8.00am - 5.00pm.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to positively impact learners' lives through teaching at HMP Portland. You should be an inspiring and resilient practitioner with a desire to make a difference.
Day-to-day duties include:
1. Preparation, assessment, and marking.
2. Developing and maintaining a full course file, including comprehensive scheme of learning and lesson planning.
3. Managing learner behaviour and challenging negative behaviour appropriately, following prison processes.
4. Differentiating learning to meet individual learners' needs, including providing extra support for learners with LDD needs.
Required skills and qualifications:
1. A Degree or professional qualification appropriate to the work.
2. Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies.
3. Excellent team working, communication, and interpersonal skills.
4. Willingness to undertake a teaching qualification if not already held.
About HMP Portland:
HMP Portland is an adult male prison and young offender institution (YOI) on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, for men aged 18 and over. Residents can train and earn qualifications in professions such as bricklaying, painting and decorating, and carpentry and joinery. Other courses include functional skills, PSD, and music. Portland residents have the opportunity to leave the prison for short periods (ROTL) to gain work experience and prepare for release.
