Job Description:
The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. They ensure welfare, compliance with standards, statutory, and contractual requirements, operate within legislative frameworks, and promote organizational values and care ethos.
The area Service Manager will manage and support managers for 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children at Lynton Community Care, reporting directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Refer clients, including assessments, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates, developing personalized care and risk management plans.
2. Maintain good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
3. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
4. Control the environment, ensuring health and safety legislation, infection control, and environmental health standards are met. Conduct risk assessments and fire checks to ensure safety.
5. Work with CIW to understand CIW Fundamental Standards and carry out necessary statutory notifications.
6. Manage legal and statutory documentation related to the home, including insurance and enrollment documents.
7. Record and address maintenance issues promptly.
8. Monitor, investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions.
9. Assist in recruiting, inducting, and training staff, promoting a culture of openness and honesty.
10. Hold regular staff meetings, support staff development, and supervise team members.
11. Build positive relationships with staff, ensuring effective communication.
12. Participate in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and meetings, in consultation with HR.
13. Manage staff scheduling, cover, absences, and holidays; oversee medication management systems.
14. Manage budgets, petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
15. Safeguard service users and address safeguarding issues.
16. Handle applications related to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and work with personal representatives to ensure legal compliance.
17. Be available on call out of hours for advice and incident response.
18. Attend supervision and pursue Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
19. Contribute to strategic decisions and business growth.
20. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director, consistent with skills and competence.
21. Manage financial aspects of the service.
22. Write and audit behavioral reports and compile relevant documentation.
The service manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
