Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Level 1

Actual Annual Salary: £18,010 - £19,631 Based on 30 hours per week, term time only plus insets

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £25,941 - £28,275 (CLF Grade B) Based on full time hours, all year round.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 30 hours per week - Part Time, Term Time Only plus Insets. Less hours or a job share will also be considered for the right candidate. Please state on your application form the hours/days you are able to commit it.

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday, 6 hours per day

Potential Start Date: September 2026

Make a Difference Every Day. We are looking for passionate Teaching Assistants to help shape brighter futures for young people across our academy community.

Hanham Woods Academy is seeking to appoint four Teaching Assistants to join our team at the start of the new academic year.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people. Successful candidates will support the delivery of high-quality educational experiences, both within and beyond the classroom, while championing the life chances and aspirations of every student within our academy.

Working under the guidance of teaching staff, you will provide educational, personal, and social development support to students. By using appropriate strategies and interventions, you will help learners access the curriculum, engage positively with their education, and achieve their full potential. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the academy and receive comprehensive training and ongoing professional development to support your growth in the role.

These positions will involve a range of specialist areas, including:

1. Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
2. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
3. Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
4. Dyslexia
5. Speech and language difficulties
6. Literacy and Numeracy
7. Children in Care
8. English as an Additional Language (EAL)
9. Thrive
10. Trauma-informed practise

We may also be able to offer apprenticeship opportunities for entry-level candidates who are interested in developing the skills and knowledge required to become a Level 1 Teaching Assistant. About you:

You will:

11. have an understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities and how a teaching assistant supports students in their learning.
12. be able to engage students and manage behaviour on a one to one or small group basis.
13. be committed to undertake relevant qualifications, e.g. relevant NVQ Level 2/ 3 in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent, first aid qualification, to ensure ongoing professional development.
14. have strong interpersonal skills, in particular with the ability to demonstrate empathy and active listening.
15. have good planning and organisational skills, specifically with regard to learning activities and support materials.
16. be someone with a keen interest in working with children and commitment to inclusion and acceptance of all.

Hanham Woods Academy is a secondary school located within the outskirts of Bristol and South Gloucestershire, delivering education to pupils aged 11-16. It is one of the most improved academies in the South West, providing an excellent education to over 800 students. The academy has a growing reputation both locally and regionally.

Our Resource Base is a specialist provision located alongside our mainstream school designed to support students with specific educational needs and disabilities.

It enables students to access mainstream education while benefiting from targeted specialist support.

19. Targeted intervention: Small group or 1:1 support for complex needs such as Autism, ADHD Speech & language disorders and sensory needs
