Would you like to be involved in this unique opportunity to support Children and Young People in a Collaborative Partnership between Barnardo's Cymru and Newport City Council? We are looking to recruit an Intervention Worker fixed term for 3 years with a focus around staff supervision and development alongside a smaller case load. This advert is a great opportunity for those workers wanting a more strategic development within their career but have little to no management experience to date.

About the Collaborative Partnership

This is an established partnership with an innovative vision for the delivery of edge of care family support for children and young people living in Newport.

The aim of the service is to:

1. Provide a continuum of family support
2. Provide intensive support for those families on the brink of care or where the plan is for a child's rehabilitation home
3. Work with families focusing on their strengths to build resilience enabling them to make changes to their lives
4. Provide evidence-based interventions based on the family's needs
5. Enable children, young people and families to identify goals and achieve

Job Role

To provide intensive family support to families on the edge of care at risk of becoming Looked after by the Local Authority. This may involve support to children and their families during evenings and weekends. Your initial responsibilities will include:

6. Utilising effective communication skills to engage families, build collaborative relationships and ensure their views are included in the family plan.
7. Gathering, analysing, evaluating and summarising information from children, families and other agencies to undertake a holistic assessment of the families needs.
8. Assisting families to establish goals in an open and participative way.
9. Taking responsibility for and give primary consideration to the needs of children with particular regard to child protection procedures and safeguarding.
10. Empowering and supporting the family in creating a safe environment.
11. Planning and delivering intensive evidence based interventions with children and families to modify harmful patterns of behaviour, in order to reduce risks and achieve positive outcomes for families.
12. Assisting families in identifying strengths and support networks to achieve change.
13. Assisting in the identification of appropriate resources and support for the family and advocate on their behalf when appropriate.
14. Enabling service users to participate in the evaluation and development of the service.
15. Preparing reports as requested including those relating to complex care proceedings and Child Protection Conferences and Children in Care Reviews.
16. Establishing, developing and maintaining productive working relationships, through liaison and joint work with other agencies, organisations, groups and individuals within the team's operational remit.
17. Recording and collating information to contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service.
18. Working collaboratively to ensure the seamless transfer of families between intervention phases.
19. Provide effective supervision, support, and guidance to team members, ensuring high standards of performance, professional development, and adherence to organisational policies and procedures.

You must demonstrate in your application that you currently use the skills outlined below, and in the Job Description/Person Specifications, or have used them previously in employment, education, training, volunteering etc.

You will have:

All criteria are essential

20. A qualification is required for this post i.e. Degree in Social Work, Diploma or other relevant professional qualification i.e. counselling, teaching, youth work
21. Experience of working with children, young people and their families preferably in a family support setting
22. Experience of using solution focused, strength based approaches with children, young people and their families
23. Experience of using therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive behavioural therapy, Parent, Childcare and Employment and Dialectical behaviour therapy
24. Experience of working intensively with young people who are in crisis and need of immediate intervention and those reluctant to engage with professionals
25. Knowledge of child development and attachment
26. Knowledge of Safeguarding and procedure
27. Ability to prioritise, organise, self-motivate and work on own initiative
28. Ability to work flexibly including some evenings and weekends
29. Ability to travel throughout Newport in order to meet the requirements of the post
