A vacancy has arisen for a Technical Application Engineer in the UK. The role supports commercial teams in all technical activities related to Grid Automation in the UK and Northern Europe. Grid Automation offers customers a comprehensive range of products, systems and services covering design, manufacture, commissioning and long‑term maintenance of Substation Protection and Automation solutions.
Essential Responsibilities
* Execute the review, analysis and resolution of assigned customer application enquiries using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, product and deadline requirements, including homologation activities and FAT support.
* Provide technical support to internal and external customers on the full range of Grid Automation Products (focused on Digital Control System, network management, cybersecurity, etc.) both remotely and face‑to‑face. The role will consist of both office‑based responsibilities and visits to customer sites.
* Assist the Commercial/Sales organisation in ensuring the best technical solution, promotion of products, presentations and assistance during technical negotiations and completing formal tenders for Grid Automation products/solutions in line with customer specifications.
* Conduct customer training to help customers in the application and operation of Grid Automation products and services.
* Attend trade shows, seminars and conferences as necessary.
* Capture market intelligence for future developments.
* Conduct Grid Automation portfolio training for internal employees.
* Support the OTR Engineering and Service teams in the correct application and operation of Grid Automation Products.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Degree in Electrical / Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science.
* Advanced and demonstrated years of experience in a customer‑facing engineering position.
* Cybersecurity experience, preferably in OT environments.
* Advanced Substation Control System Applications Knowledge within the Transmission & Distribution segment.
* Experience with IEC 61850‑based Substation Automation solutions is highly desirable.
* Working knowledge of Substation Protection, Substation Automation and RTUs and ability to assist customers in selecting and implementing the best GE solution for their applications.
* Experience with network protocols, HMI systems and software packages is highly desirable.
* Ability to analyze specific applications and produce technical reports.
* Commercial acumen.
* Able to travel both within the country and overseas.
* Languages – English (required for written and verbal communication with customers).
* Knowledge of Digital Substations and software‑defined solutions.
