The Charity Trustee role at Age UK Notts is open to all those who are either a trained lawyer or who have a strong legal background.
Responsibilities
* Ensure Age UK Notts is accountable.
* Ensure our purpose and work is carried out for the public benefit.
* Ensure compliance with our governance code and any relevant obligations.
* Act in the best interests of the charity, maintaining professional integrity when dealing with stakeholders, other bodies and individuals.
* Manage the charity's resources responsibly.
* Act with reasonable care and skill.
* Safeguard the good name and values of the charity.
* Act as an ambassador for Age UK Notts and the wider Age UK network.
* Promote Age UK Notts’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy.
Time Commitment
Age UK Notts holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, each lasting approximately 2 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April, and July. Trustees must set aside a minimum of 2 hours of reading time before each board meeting.
* The AGM follows the October board meeting, lasting about 1.5 hours, with a minimum of 1 hour of pre‑reading required.
* A Trustee may be required to attend special events such as the annual staff conference.
* During the first three years, Trustees should familiarize themselves with the charity’s services and infrastructure and continue to engage with relevant departments thereafter.
* The Finance & Audit Committee meets separately from the full board and its membership is determined by the Board.
* Truesships serve a three‑year term and may be re‑elected for additional terms.
Training
We offer a full induction programme and ongoing support from the charity, other Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team, plus occasional external development.
Who We’re Looking For
* A trained lawyer or someone with a strong legal background.
* Experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Issues relating to work with, and for, older people or lived experience.
o Legal skills.
o Public relations and marketing.
o Campaigning.
o Education and learning.
o HR.
o Strategy and planning skills and performance monitoring in commercial and/or not‑for‑profit organisations.
o Developing and monitoring budgets.
We particularly welcome applications from diverse communities and are looking for people from a wide range of backgrounds to join our board and contribute towards leading the charity and delivering services to older people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Key Information
* You must be at least 18 years old.
* You must be properly appointed following the procedures and any restrictions in the charity’s governing documents.
* The role of a Trustee is voluntary and is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.
* You must not act as a trustee if you are disqualified under the Charities Act—including an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception, bankruptcy, a formal arrangement with a creditor, or removal as a company director or charity trustee because of wrongdoing.
