 
        
        Overview
We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer to join DVLA’s digital services squad. You will be involved in manual and automated testing of web-based interfaces and APIs, working closely with developers and analysts to ensure high-quality software delivery.
Responsibilities
 * Clarify stories and acceptance criteria with analysts and developers to ensure business scenarios are fully covered.
 * Determine the testing that is needed and work with developers to understand code bases and test requirements.
 * Identify functional and non‑functional testing needs for services that are web‑based or API‑based.
 * Support junior test engineers and help develop their testing skills and knowledge.
 * Manually test services and use automation tooling where appropriate, focusing on exploratory testing and surfacing unrealised acceptance criteria.
 * Use HTTP API testing tools such as Postman and test web‑based interfaces with in‑browser tools.
Qualifications
 * Experience in software testing, including manual and/or automated testing, defect management, and test creation.
 * Familiarity with testing tools (e.g., X‑Ray, Bruno) and an understanding of software development life cycles.
 * Ability to work with digital products and data, using designs and user stories.
 * Evidence of identifying, diagnosing, and resolving bugs found during testing.
 * Comfortable reading and writing stories in the Gherkin specification language.
 * Real experience of using test tooling to test both web‑based user interfaces and APIs.
 * Experience as a Test Analyst or Test Engineer, able to work across multiple delivery squads and conduct difficult conversations when defects are identified.
 * Active pursuit of input from diverse backgrounds and collaboration with others.
