We need you to lead our team of kick-ass volunteers. We'll need you one day a week, that's 7.5 hours and you can work that flexibly across the week. You'll get £175 for your day rate and you'll meet some awesome people who are working hard to battle social isolation in dads. You'll be remote (so you can work in your pants, if you like), but there are occasional in-person meetings across Sussex (fully clothed please). Working closely with our event managers and volunteering strategy consultant, take ownership of the coordination and ongoing support of Dad La Soul’s volunteer programme. The role is focused on ensuring volunteers feel welcomed, supported and confident in their involvement, and that volunteering activity is well-organised, safe and aligned with the organisation’s values and ways of working. ABOUT US Dad La Soul hosts funky events, building welcoming spaces for dads and father figures to connect, share experiences and spend quality time with their children. Through our Dads Only meetups and Dads and Kids playdates, we help reduce isolation, strengthen family bonds and support positive mental health. As we grow, volunteers will play an increasingly important role in helping us deliver safe, inclusive activity and in building a strong community of dads who support dads. THE ROLE This role builds on the foundations of the volunteering programme and infrastructure that have already been developed. You’ll be responsible for embedding these systemsinto day-to-day practice, supporting volunteers throughout their journey, and acting as a consistent point of contact between volunteers and the wider team. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Dad La Soul, particularly the Event Manager, to ensure volunteering is effectively integrated into delivery. While you won’t be responsible for the line management of staff, you will play a key role in shaping the volunteer experience and ensuring that expectations, boundaries and responsibilities are clear on all sides. The role is suited to someone who is confident working independently, comfortable coordinating people and processes, and motivated by creating positive, inclusive community experiences. It is an ongoing role, with responsibility for both the practical coordination of volunteers and the longer-term sustainability of the volunteering programme as Dad La Soul continues to grow. What you’ll be responsible for In the early stages of the role, you’ll work closely with the team to embed the volunteering programme, policies and processes that have already been developed. This will include familiarising yourself with the volunteer framework, understanding how it aligns with delivery, and ensuring systems are used consistently and confidently inpractice. Once embedded, you’ll take ongoing responsibility for the coordination and support of volunteers, acting as the main point of contact and ensuring that volunteering activity runs smoothly and safely. You will: act as the main point of contact for volunteers, providing clear information, guidance and ongoing support coordinate volunteers across Dad La Soul activity, ensuring sessions and events are appropriately supported host monthly volunteer check in meetings online, providing volunteers with the opportunities to connect and receive support (these are evening meetings of 30-45 mins) manage volunteer onboarding processes, including induction, role clarity and relevant checks maintain accurate volunteer records and documentation in line with agreed systems and processes work with the Event Manager to align volunteer coordination with event planning and delivery ensure volunteers are appropriately briefed and supported ahead of sessions and events support volunteers to understand boundaries, responsibilities and expectations within their role identify issues or risks relating to volunteering and escalate these appropriately contribute to the ongoing development and sustainability of the volunteer programme, including capturing learning and feedback What success looks like You will know this role is working well when the volunteer programme feels consistent, well-organised and supportive and when volunteers feel confident in their roles, clear about expectations and valued in their contribution. Volunteering activity should run smoothly alongside delivery, with clear coordination, good communication and appropriate support in place. The experience should feel welcoming and inclusive, while also being safe, well-bounded and aligned with Dad La Soul’s values and safeguarding responsibilities. In practice, this looks like: volunteers feel well-informed, supported and confident in their involvement volunteer onboarding, coordination and communication happen smoothly and consistently roles, boundaries and expectations are clear for volunteers and the wider team volunteers are appropriately briefed and supported for sessions and events safeguarding and safety processes are followed confidently in practice issues are identified early and handled calmly and appropriately learning and feedback from volunteers is captured and used to improve the programme over time About you You bring a thoughtful, people-centred approach to your work and are confident supporting others in a way that is clear, calm and well-bounded. You are comfortable working independently, holding responsibility for coordination and follow-up, and maintaining oversight of multiple people and processes at once. You communicate clearly and reliably, take pride in keeping things organised, and are attentive to detail; particularly where safety, safeguarding and inclusion are concerned. You understand the importance of setting clear expectations, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and creating environments where volunteers feel welcomed and supported. You will have: experience coordinating remote volunteers, participants or similar groups in a community or public-facing setting confidence managing onboarding, communication and ongoing support processes a good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and the importance of clear boundaries strong organisational skills and attention to detail the ability to use digital tools to support coordination, tracking and record-keeping (or the confidence to learn them quickly) You are aligned with Dad La Soul’s values and motivated by creating inclusive, supportive opportunities for people to contribute their time and skills in meaningful ways.
