Technical Officer (Private Sector Housing)
£36 363.00 - £42 839.00
Honiton with hybrid working options
Permanent Full time 37 hours per week
About this role
It is an exciting time to join the team as a Technical Officer in Private Sector Housing improving conditions in private rented homes. You will be inspecting homes, investigating and taking enforcement against landlords. With the introduction of the Renter Right Act you will be helping the team set up new investigation and enforcement procedures and systems.
About you
To be considered for this role, technical knowledge, a housing standards/ building related qualification or experience in a similar enforcement role is a must. There will be plenty of opportunities for training and development. You’ll be busy, so you’ll need the ability to manage conflicting priorities, challenging situations and negotiate with tenants and landlords. You will be competent and confident in using the Housing Health and Safety Rating Scheme.
While the technical bit is important, we want people who are customer focussed and understand the importance of working collaboratively and are committed to taking a unique approach to each situation.
You will be visiting residents in their homes and clients across the district so a valid driving licence and access to suitable transport are essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act). As is the need to apply for a basic DBS check.
About us
Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members — and we couldn’t agree more. You’ll be joining an organisation that puts people at the heart of everything we do, working collaboratively with our communities to deliver high-quality services and create an outstanding place to live, work, visit and enjoy. With a strong focus on wellbeing, a highly flexible and supportive hybrid Worksmart approach, and a commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a workforce culture where colleagues are empowered to be Happy, Healthy and Here.
