The CNS team provides specialist respiratory nursing care, assessment, management and advice to a respiratory specific patient group.
This is a very rewarding role where the successful candidate will support the patient on all aspects of their acute respiratory journey, from admission to discharge to clinic follow up.
As a RNS, you will be responsible for the management of a defined patient caseload and work alongside the ward team in supporting and managing respiratory patients on the ward.
The CNS team review specific patients following discharge from hospital within the outpatients department, where they work autonomously under the clinical guidelines set.
A large part of the RNS role will be education, which includes educating staff, patients and relatives. Communication is key to this to ensure complex issues and concerns are communicated safely and effectively.
The RNS will need to work closely within the team and will contribute to the development of the speciality service, within the ward and hospital environment.
Audit is a key part to this role, and we contribute daily to the National Respiratory audits for Asthma & COPD.
The job currently is Monday to Friday, 08:00-18:00.
Main duties of the job
Expert information & education for staff / patient / relative on Chest Drain(s), Inhalers/Nebulisers, Emergency oxygen, Acute NIV and Acute CPAP.
Ongoing regular education sessions, competency & OSCE guided, for Chest Drain, Acute NIV & Acute CPAP.
Provide specialist assessment, management & reviews for patients that require Acute NIV or Acute CPAP.
Assess, manage & review respiratory patients referred via CPD. In particular those presenting with their Asthma or COPD.
Contribute to the National Audit Program for Asthma & COPD.
In an outpatient setting, respiratory patients are followed up post hospital discharge in the Respiratory CNS Clinic.
Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at the hospital site. Remote interviews will not be available.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
8. Registered Nurse (Level 1) or equivalent qualification
9. Recognised teaching/ assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
10. Post registration qualification in respiratory care
Experience
Essential criteria
11. Minimum 2 years post registration at Band 5 with a respiratory experience
12. Evidence of continued professional development
13. Ability to demonstrate an interest in ward based respiratory care
14. Understands and participate in clinical audit
Skills

15. Excellent written and communication skills
16. Ability to work autonomously, in a timely manner
