Job description

Directorate: Place

Hours: 12 hours and 45 minutes

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Mickleover Library, Derby

Mickleover Library is a busy library in the heart of the community. For this role, you will need a good understanding of customer care and the ability to work in a busy, customer-focused environment, as well as an awareness of the role of a modern library service in improving literacy, digital literacy and wellbeing.

The Library hosts regular activities for adults, including Knit and Natter sessions, Coffee Mornings and Book Clubs, which you will need to support.

Key Digital Skills sessions are also offered, so a sound understanding of IT, experience of using IT and the ability to support others' use of IT is essential.

The confidence and ability to talk to children and families about books and reading is key, as is the confidence and ability to deliver children's activities such as Rhymetimes, Storytimes and Code Clubs.

Communication skills are important as you will need to talk to customers and library colleagues about what the library offers, as well as liaising with colleagues from other Council departments.

Being a positive and flexible member of the team is critical and postholders must be able to work the timetabled hours, and be willing to work outside of timetabled hours occasionally. Some evening and Saturday working will be required.

The successful candidate will also be expected to work at other libraries in Derby if required.

Please be aware that where there are staff within the organisation who are 'at risk' of rdundancy, requirements to redeploy to another suitable role will apply and take priority.
