About the role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes — the Type 31 frigate build. This is a hands‑on role where your mechanical expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of cutting‑edge naval capability.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
* Installing pumps, valves, pipework, filters, main engines and mounts
* Carrying out general mechanical fitting tasks across the build hall
* Using magnetic base drills and marking out fish plates
* Interpreting technical drawings and applying torque settings
* Diagnosing faults and ensuring high‑quality workmanship
Essential experience
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Experience applying torque settings accurately
* Proven fault‑finding skills in mechanical systems
* Background in heavy industry such as marine, oil & gas, automotive, aviation or shipbuilding
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment
Qualifications
* Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
