Mechanical Technician
Full Time – Shift patterns vary between 0 & 0 hours for an 8-hour period
Great Western Hospital, Wiltshire
Serco is recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join the team at Great Western Hospital. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of mechanical services and equipment within the hospital, under the guidance of Estates Supervisors and Management. The position operates on a shift basis, Monday to Sunday, covering operational hours of 0 to : and includes participation in an on-call rota from : :.
Main Responsibilities:
* Perform reactive repairs, fault diagnosis, servicing, commissioning, and maintenance on various services, plant, and equipment such as boiler systems, AHUs, and chiller plants across the hospital as directed.
* Provide impact assessments and risk analyses for significant shutdowns and operations to management and stakeholders.
* Plan and coordinate major maintenance activities and work with contractors.
* Diagnose faults in complex, multi-faceted equipment.
* Carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance on a range of plant and equipment.
* Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
* Contribute to health and safety system development and review.
* Work safely, considering own and others' safety at all times.
* Train and mentor apprentices and trainees as appropriate.
* Attend work as scheduled and use PPE as required.
* Participate in on-call duties and work beyond standard hours if needed.
* Report faults, defects, and spare parts requirements to supervisors.
* Attend training sessions, both on-site and off-site.
* Understand the role's impact on Serco’s GWH contract and company objectives.
* Potentially undertake Authorized Person duties, including pressure systems, Legionella, ventilation, and medical gases (training provided).
Qualifications and Experience Needed:
* Previous engineering experience with transferable skills.
* Level 3 Certificate/Diploma/NVQ in a mechanical discipline.
* BOAS trained.
* L8/HSG, HTM Medical Gas, Ventilation, and Water Hygiene training.
* Experience working in similar environments.
* Knowledge of Mechanical Building Services.
* Good communication and customer service skills.
* Membership of a relevant technical body is advantageous but not essential.
