An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Optometrists to join the Ophthalmology team at Queen Victoria Hospital. The post holder will work independently and with consultants where required in making clinical decisions. There will be opportunities to develop your experience and work with specialist teams.
Responsibilities
Key duties include:
 * Work independently and with consultants to make clinical decisions for patient care.
 * Conduct Cataract new clinic assessments, counselling, discussing risks and benefits, target refractions, and listing for surgery.
 * Follow up Cataract patients ensuring post‑operative complications such as CMO are absent; list second eye when necessary and manage refractive surprises.
 * Lead Refractive outpatient clinics and manage refractive outcomes.
 * Provide follow‑up for Corneal cross‑linking and support corneal clinics with stable graft patients.
 * Carry out Paediatric clinic cycloplegic refractions and support orthoptic patients.
 * Attend Glaucoma clinics and contribute to diagnostic assessment.
 * Participate in Virtual Ophthalmology Clinics.
 * Report directly to the clinical lead for optometry and refractive work.
Person Specification – Knowledge (Essential)
 * MCOptom specialist optometry degree or BSc (Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry.
 * Postgraduate specialist training or equivalent experience to Masters level.
 * At least 3 years post‑qualification experience in Hospital Optometry.
 * Current registration with the General Optical Council (GOC).
Contract and Salary
Permanent, part‑time, band 7. Salary £47,810 to £54,710 a year pro rata.
