Orthoptist/Trainee, Band 6/Annex 21 Para 2 (ii) – 1 post full time 37 hours per week
An opportunity has arisen to join the Tayside Orthoptic Department. You will be part of the Orthoptic team that consists of 9 orthoptists and 3 orthoptic assistants. We provide a comprehensive orthoptic and visual field service to the whole region of Tayside. The orthoptic service provides various clinics including general orthoptic clinics, community paediatric service in conjunction with our hospital optometrists, functional vision assessment, reading difficulties clinic and post stroke assessment services. We work closely with 3 ophthalmologists providing a specialist paediatric service including orthoptic JIA screening, adult motility service that includes a botulinum toxin, adjustable sutures and a tertiary referral service as well as an orthoptic lead thyroid eye disease clinic. We also provide orthoptic delivered vision screening service, See4School, for the children in Tayside. The post is based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but would include travel to clinics throughout Tayside therefore ability to travel is essential.
We are an accredited orthoptic practice placement site and take orthoptic students regularly on placement from all 4 universities. Ninewells is a teaching hospital and you will be involved in teaching junior doctors, medical students, nursing students and pre‑registration optometrists.

Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive orthoptic and visual field service to the region of Tayside.
* Attend general orthoptic clinics and community paediatric services following protocol.
* Conduct functional vision assessment, reading difficulties clinic and post stroke assessment services.
* Collaborate with ophthalmologists on specialist paediatric and adult motility services.
* Deliver orthoptic led thyroid eye disease clinic and screening services.
* Teach and support junior doctors, medical and nursing students and pre‑registration optometrists.
* Travel to clinics throughout Tayside as required.
Qualifications
* A diploma/degree in Orthoptics and current HCPC registration.
* Postgraduate experience desirable with a broad range of clinical experience and knowledge.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
* Newly qualified practitioners (NQPs) welcome; support and mentorship over 12–24 months.
* Motivation to travel across Tayside and support services at Ninewells Hospital.
