Mobile Plant Operator
Location: Plymouth
Salary: £35,000 per year + shift premium
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Mobile Plant Operator to primarily operate a tracked excavator, along with other machinery such as telehandlers and tractors.
You will join the Care and Maintenance Team on a significant mine site rebuild project in Plymouth. This is a permanent opportunity offering long-term stability and the chance to work on a high-impact, technically challenging site.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operate plant machinery including excavators, telehandlers, tractors, and 4×4 light vehicles
2. Carry out daily pre-op and post-op inspections to ensure safe and reliable operation
3. Attend daily shift start-up meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
4. Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects promptly
5. Support site operations including:Pump and pipeline movementsDust controlSurface water managementRoad maintenanceRefuelling and general housekeeping
6. Assist with loading/unloading shipments and other site duties as required
Working Hours
7. Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
8. Moving to shift patterns within the next 4 months (with shift premium)
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
9. Valid UK Driving Licence
10. CPCS or NPORS Excavator qualification
11. Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
12. Ability to pass regular drug and alcohol testing
Desirable
13. NVQ Level qualification in Plant Operations
14. Experience operating a range of heavy plant (telehandler, dozers, wheel loaders, haul trucks)
15. IOSH – Working Safely Certification
16. First Aid at Work qualification
17. Basic computer skills
