Job Description
About Grõ Careers
We specialise in helping architects step out of traditional practice and into alternative environments: project management, project leadership and client-side roles.
Our approach is highly tailored, selective, hands-on, and ethics-first - we map realistic routes out of practice, sharpen your narrative, and prepare you for the commercial realities so you can land and deliver with confidence.
Many of our opportunities are exclusive and not widely advertised.
This Opportunity
Grõ Careers is partnered exclusively with a design-led residential developer hiring a Senior Architect / Technologist into a Technical Manager role, taking ownership of construction-stage delivery on beautifully designed bespoke properties.
This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to transition out of traditional practice!
From post-planning through to key structural milestones on site. You’ll be the person who keeps the build flowing in a client-facing management position.
What Makes This Different
This business delivers high-quality, architect-designed one-off homes in exceptional locations across the UK, and now internationally.
You’ll be Glasgow-based (hybrid), but regularly out on site - solving problems, aligning parties, and protecting the client experience.
This is a role for someone who wants to:
* step out of “traditional practice”
* keep their architectural brain switched on
* own delivery at the point it matters most
* build relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers
* bring structure, confidence and calm to a fast-moving delivery environment
The Real Deliverables
This is not a concept role.
Your impact is measured by how effectively you:
* programme and coordinate construction start dates and key structural milestones across multiple projects
* manage supplier and contractor interfaces so sites run smoothly
* answer technical queries fast, clearly, and decisively
* keep clients confident and calm during construction
* maintain standards and quality whilst managing a small multi-disciplinary team
* bring order and predictability to a process that can otherwise feel chaotic
The business delivers c. 20 projects per year, with 4-6 live projects under direct oversight at any one time, plus broader oversight of others as they come to site.
Site visits average once a fortnight - achievable within the day.
What You’ll Do
You’ll sit at the centre of delivery, acting as the technical authority and coordination lead.
Expect to:
* manage a small technical team day-to-day
* coordinate construction packages with architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
* own programming and communication during the key structural windows
* conduct site inspections for compliance, build quality and issue resolution
* handle technical and construction queries from clients + contractors
* progress reporting to senior leadership
* improve quality control and standardisation over time
* strengthen and expand the contractor / supply-chain network
The Profile That Thrives Here
You’re likely a strong fit if you are:
* an experienced architect or architectural technologist with serious delivery maturity
* comfortable operating from stage 4 onwards, with real construction-phase confidence
* used to being the person who “holds the whole thing together”
* calm and authoritative with contractors - but kind, human, and reassuring with clients
* commercially minded
* strong at programme, priorities, and supplier coordination
* happy to be hands-on in problem solving (sketching/details/rapid resolution) without needing to be in a production role
* Entrepreneurial, looking for an opportunity to play an integral role in a rapidly expanding organisation.
Experience with timber / off-site / MMC is highly attractive - but not a dealbreaker if you’ve delivered bespoke residential projects through comparable systems and can learn quickly.
Revit is desirable (you’ll be working alongside a Revit-capable technical team), but the role is primarily about leadership, coordination and delivery rather than sitting in the model.
Package & Practical's
* Base salary: £45k-£55k (depending on experience)
* Attractive bonus structure: £5k-£10k+ linked to delivery outcomes and business activity (realistic strong-performer total c. £60k-£65k, with additional upside as the business scales)
* Hybrid: 3 days Glasgow office / 2 days home
* 35 days holiday (incl. bank holidays)
* 4% employer pension
* Business travel support provided for site visits
This Is For You If…
You’re an individual who:
* is entrepreneurial by nature
* wants to be measured by outcomes
* wants client-side responsibility without losing the technical depth
* enjoys solving real problems, under real constraints
* wants autonomy, trust, and a genuinely influential seat in a growing business
