Yelp is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer excited to work at the intersection of data and backend engineering. You'll help design and develop systems that power Yelp’s advertising platform, including building SDKs for large-scale event ingestion and designing data pipelines for processing and analysis.
You’ll join the Product Monetization Platform team, responsible for collecting and processing ad-related events, supporting billing, analytics, machine learning, and ad serving. This role offers hands-on experience with scalable data systems and contributes directly to Yelp’s revenue products.

What You'll Do
1. Contribute to the experimentation and development of new ad products at Yelp.
2. Design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines using tools like Apache Spark.
3. Manage high-volume, real-time data streams with Apache Kafka and frameworks like Apache Flink.
4. Estimate timelines for projects, features, and bug fixes.
5. Work with large-scale storage solutions such as Apache Cassandra and data lake systems.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into system designs.
7. Support on-call rotations as needed.
What It Takes To Succeed
1. Experience coding in a modern object-oriented language (Python, Java, C++).
2. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
3. Comfort with complex codebases and distributed systems.
4. Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Self-motivated with proactive problem-solving abilities.
6. Exposure to technologies like Python, AWS Redshift, Athena, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, etc., is a plus.
